How to use Grayscale PDF

  1. Choose or drop a PDF.
  2. Press Make grayscale.
  3. Download the grey PDF.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

Yes. Photos and scans inside the PDF are turned grey too. Very large images (over 24 megapixels) are left in colour so weaker phones don't run out of memory; the result tells you if that happened.

Runs in your browser, so your file is not uploaded.

Questions

Will the text still be selectable?

Yes. The colours are rewritten to grey; the pages are not turned into pictures. Colour gradients and some special inks may stay in colour, so check before printing.

Why convert a PDF to grayscale?

For black-and-white printing, to save colour ink, or when a print shop asks for a grey file.

Are my files uploaded?

Runs in your browser, so your file is not uploaded.

Is Grayscale PDF free?

Yes. No signup and no watermark.

Will it work on an old phone?

Yes for most files. On low-memory phones files up to 20 MB are safest; above your device's limit you get a warning and can try anyway.

Does it work on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android?

Yes. It runs in any current browser, so there is nothing to install on any of them.
